PROS Scholarship

PROFESSIONAL REACTOR OPERATOR SOCIETY

JEAN MILLER SCHOLARSHIP

The Professional Reactor Operator Society is proud to offer a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior entering a college degree program in Engineering or other scientific field.  This scholarship promotes post-secondary education in technical fields of study.

Applicants must be the son or daughter of a current member of the Society.  The scholarship winner must enroll in the fall semester as a full-time student in an accredited institution pursuing a four-year degree in Engineering, the Physical Sciences, or other technical field.

Applications are required to be submitted by March 15th.

Applications received after this date may not be considered.

The scholarship winner will be selected by a review committee composed of other PROS members.  The committee’s award decision will be based solely on the information contained in this application.  Applications will be reviewed with all identifying information removed so as to maintain anonymity.  PROS members with a son or daughter that has applied for the PROS scholarship may not sit on the review committee, and no more than two PROS members from a given site may sit on the review committee.

The $1,000 scholarship payment will be awarded on proof of enrollment provided to PROS.  This proof of enrollment can be any form of written documentation from the college that verifies full time student status (e.g. report card, tuition bill, etc.).

Jean Miller was a long-time PROS member from Oconee Station.  The first female licensed operator at Oconee, Jean became the first female PROS board member in 1993 when she was elected as PROS Region II President.  She was an outstanding example of the professional reactor operator, a warm and fun-loving person that energized every PROS gathering she attended, and one of the first and most generous supporters of the PROS scholarship competition.

Jean was lost suddenly to illness in 2009.  This scholarship is named in her honor and memory.
